Future Projects & Nickelodeon Tour

Posted by jaxxy - March 8th, 2011

Ok, not too much has been going on here, but I've got a lot planned for the next few months and I just bought some new memory sticks for my computer. :X Hopefully Flash won't be such an asshole to me now. TONS of projects are on the way including HAMBURGER MOON 2!! Sapphire is still mixing audio for Lil Hoots 2. I'm still keeping up with Aminals and still surprised with how many people are following it. Sergio n Bear 3 might be a possibility but we haven't given it much love'n in a while...I think it's time for a good, gruesome finale.

I just finished a job with a small local studio called Orange Corn where they brought me on to redesign and animate all of their birds for their Facebook game, Bird Sanctuary. You can see them in the game, but be warned: it's still in Beta and being worked on, so there's not much to do yet.

Last month I got a tour of Nickelodeon Studios....which is the network that inspired me to be an animator in the first place. I was so nervous walking through the front doors past the 'slime fountain' that my legs were shaking. It was full of amazing and awesome more than I could have possibly thought of. There's even a guy there who turned his office into a CANDY WONDERLAND. The tour showed us some sneak peaks of the new Kung Fu Panda show and The Legend of Kora. Apparently Nickelodeon is one of the BIGGEST cartoon studios handling more than 10 shows at a time...but I was pretty upset to learn that most of their animation isn't handled at the studio. :( They only do planning and story stuff there...which was pretty impressive alone considering how HUGE the studio was.
Oh yeah, and if you live around here and are interested in working for them, CHECK THIS OUT! Nick's Fellowship program is now taking applications to help build the talents of artists! It's kinda like an internship program for 6 months, but I guess there's some pay involved. It's brand new and will be open for submissions until April 1st, so hurry and jump on board!

Also please welcome a new, female, flash animator to Newgrounds - RKrazy! She is absolutely adorable, has a great sense of humor, and is quickly picking up flash. She doesn't have much submitted here yet, but I hope that changes within the near future. :)

Any tips for someone who doesn't jack about Animation? Seriously I could use them, oh and glad to see your back with more projects on the way.

Animator's Survival Guide has all your answers. I think just about everyone I know has a copy -> http://www.amazon.com/Animators-S urvival-Kit-Richard-Williams/dp/0 571202284

Animation is indeed a jungle... and to survive in the jungle, you need your Survival Guide...

And would this RKrazy be related to you in any way...? :P

Nopes. :I She's just a sweet girl I met randomly.

Thank you.

Very cool stuff, how did you blag a tour of Nick studios? :P

It was a thingy from my college that I was invited to. :) One of my past teachers set up the tour.

Cool stuff. Did you go to Nick Animation in Burbank or to their regular studio in Hollywood? Both are a load of fun. I remember the first time I went to Nick studios in Hollywood, I walked in the door for a meeting and the hallway was just filled with clowns presumably waiting for an audition... it definitely took me by surprise.

One of the "Sketched" guys is working on Kora as well so I'll certainly high five you on how awesome that show is going to be haha. I think a lot of people would be surprised to find out just out little animating is done here in the U.S. though, most of what you watch is handled in Korea. If you want to see a really cool active animation studio you should see if you can land a tour of Titmouse studios in Hollywood. It's a small facility but they do a lot of their own onsite animation. Them, Animax, Six Point Harness, and Oddbot all have local studios that animate in house and are all run by really cool guys.

Anyways, sorry for rambling on your user page, I just always get excited when I see a fellow L.A. resident doing cool stuff. haha.

Yeah, but it's sad how many talented animators it's putting out of work here. :/ Actually, funny you should mention Titmouse; my roommate got a job offer there, so I kinda wanted to go with him to see if I could sneak a peak at what the studio looked like. XD I'll have to check out the other ones you mentioned though. Six Point I JUST heard of the other day when I was browsing jobs.
And we went to the Nick here in Burbank. :) It's super close (literally less than a mile) and I always drive by the big gates. If I had toured when you were, I would have freaked out from the clowns and ran away. lol, wonder what that was for though.
Have you checked out Dreamworks Studios? Now THAT PLACE has it MADE for their workers. o_o

Did Tomie get to be a wrangler!?! :D

No word yet. :/

Is Hamburger Moon 2 going to be more in depth, lol.

Well, that actually sounded like a whole ton of fun.
I probable wouldn't be so exited that I'd be shaking in my pants (considering I'm not much of animator anymore!)
But I bet you something.
If you took me to Naughty Dog Studios I'd be shaking in my shoes.

I watch hamburger moon for the plot!

i watch hamburger moon 2 for the plot

I watch hamburger moon for the porn!

So Nick outsources too? They shall burn in hell.

XD That's what I thought too, but once they broke down how they make a show, it made more sense...and there are still plenty of jobs offered at the studio for animators...the outsourcing mostly handles inbetweening.

FUCK YES HAMBURGER MOON TWO SO EXCITE

Congratulations on all the goings on!
Hamburger Moon 2 is going to be a RIOT!

wow looks like you got alot of things to do ^^
